Adorable Pitbull left by “family” goes on to make rank as official police dog

We all know that dogs are loyal companions, always there to offer a wagging tail and unconditional love.

But what happens when their human counterparts don’t return the favor?

Imagine being a dog who’s suddenly left alone, with no one to care for you.

This was the heartbreaking reality for Halo, a 6-year-old pitbull.

Her owners decided to part ways and, in the process, concluded that they no longer wanted the responsibility of a pet.

Just like that, Halo found herself without a home or a family to love her.

Thankfully, Halo’s story took a turn for the better when she was taken in by Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue.

But let’s be honest, life in an animal shelter isn’t a walk in the park, especially for a pitbull.

The breed often faces unfair stigmas, making it hard for these dogs to find forever homes.

Halo spent nearly a year in the shelter system, a period long enough to make anyone lose hope.

While Halo was staying with a foster family, a certain social media post caught the eye of Lieutenant Mickey Curran from the Upland Borough Police Department.

The moment he saw Halo’s picture, he felt an instant connection and knew he had to do something.

What was it about Halo that struck a chord with Lt. Curran?

Well, it was her unique appearance that caught his attention.

“She had a snaggletooth and an underbite, and I said, ‘That’s the girl for us!’”

Curran told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

He even went on to ask, “I said ‘I know this is unorthodox but would you be OK with a police department rescuing a dog and with the dog living at the station?’”

When Tish Mayo, the director of Rags 2 Riches Animal Rescue, heard about Lt. Curran’s proposal, she was thrilled.

Not only did she love the idea, but she also decided to go all-in to make it special for Halo.

So, what did they do?

They had Halo officially sworn in as an Upland Police Officer, making her the first rescue K-9 in the department’s history!

Now, you might be wondering what Halo’s duties are as a police officer.

She’s not just there for show; she has a job to do!

Halo serves as a community officer at various events and meetings.

Her role is to make people feel safe and welcome, and let’s just say, she’s a natural at it.

After spending a year in the shelter system, Halo finally found her forever home and a fulfilling job to boot.

It’s a win-win situation that couldn’t be more perfect.

Dogs, like humans, need a sense of purpose and a loving environment to thrive in.

Halo now enjoys the best of both worlds.

She has an entire police station full of people who would drop everything just to give her some love and attention.

On top of that, she has a job that allows her to make people feel comfortable and secure.
